Meet the Founder
Hi, I'm Serge Williams, founder of Dojo12.
During my student years, I competed in chess tournaments, and that's where I learned the lesson that shaped everything I do today: talent and experience can only take you so far. Without studying theory, strategy, and proven concepts, improvement eventually hits a plateau. Real progress comes from structured learning.
I've always been passionate about games that bring people together. In my younger years, I played classic strategy games like Risk and collectible card games such as Magic: The Gathering, and more recently I've enjoyed Ticket to Ride.
The idea for Dojo12 grew out of years of playing games with friends and family. Through friendly competition and a shared desire to improve, I realized that many players enjoy learning just as much as they enjoy playing.
Dojo12 is a family project. I built it with my son and my daughter. My son is an enthusiastic and competitive player who, I'll happily admit, beats me at most of our tabletop strategy games — he's our resident Catan specialist, and his sharp play shaped the way we teach. My daughter takes care of the platform itself, keeping our website and social media running. Their fresh perspective is part of everything we do here.
The name says what it stands for. A dojo is a place to train and improve — a nod to the discipline of martial arts. The 12 stands for the twelve months of the year: a space to keep sharpening your skills all year long.
I created Dojo12 because I love learning and continuous improvement. Our goal is to help players understand game mechanics, build stronger strategies, and gain confidence across popular board games like Catan, Ticket to Ride, and Carcassonne — through structured lessons, quizzes, flashcards, audio content, and practical examples.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced player, I hope Dojo12 helps you sharpen your skills, enjoy your games more, and create memorable moments with the people you play with.
